1. I just explained to that householder how we arrive at 1914, using only the bible.
2. I've decided to start printing my own bible literature.
3. I wish the conventions still lasted 7 days.
i’ll start it off.
boy did we get drunk last night.

i think congratulations are long overdue to the wt for the excellent job they do of keeping members dumbed-down and feeling safe inside the cocoon of a hive mind.
they tell us that the best education program in the world is reading the wt publications but here is a conversation i had with my uber elder buddy yesterday that may prove otherwise.
we were talking about the october broadcast and the question of whether gods name should be included or not, when i made an offhand comment about the compiling of the new testament and the canonisation of its books.
Just wanted to add that I started this topic and just wrote off the cuff at work, so I didn't have time to add some links.
In defence of my buddy, I am certainly no biblical scholar either and the irony is that I have learned more about the bible after I stopped attending meetings.
As usual, some great threads about this topic right here on these forums.

We were talking about the October broadcast and the question of whether Gods name should be included or not, when I made an offhand comment about the compiling of the new testament and the canonisation of its books. My elder friend asked me what I was talking about because 'Jehovah' compiled the bible including, of course, the NT.
He was completely unaware of the events that took place over the course of hundreds of years after the NT books were written, primarily by what we would call 'the apostate Christian church', aka Catholics, that led to the eventual formation of the bible as we generally know it today. Even now there are different versions of the bible that are accepted by various branches of religion and the book of revelation wasn't generally agreed upon as being canon before the 5th century ad.
I should mention that my friend is over 50 years old, he is an elder, ex-pioneer, ex-bethelite and the son of a missionary couple. Yet, even though he has had an amazing wt education, he didn't know how the bible came to be.
Once again, well done wt.
can i ask your views on taking children out on the ministry?
.
do you have any experiences you can share of things you as a child/your children/grandchildren have witnessed on the ministry that they shouldn't have?.
When I was about 11 a hot lady of about 20 came to the door wearing only her underpants and a t-shirt- that was pretty cool.
I remember being screamed at and told to 'piss off' by an irate householder when I was about 14.
My Dad got abused by a guy who told him he shouldn't have his kids out in the blazing heat. QLD, Australia 34 degrees , 90% humidity. It was actually a fair point.
does anyone else feel overwhelmed on what to believe?.
i've been doing lots of research on beliefs, evolution, creationism but i feel no further forward about what i truly believe.
for example i looked at the fossil record and tiktaalic and thought great it proves a lot but then i've seen counter arguments on youtube of people basically saying its a load of rubbish and doesn't prove anything.
Hi Freedom Rocks.
I certainly wouldn't pretend to have the answers to your opening post. However, I will say that believing you know everything (like JW's do) is a really childish attitude and I think being able to admit to not understanding everything is proof of wisdom and a sign that you are strong enough to test your own beliefs.
There is a good youtube clip of Ricky Gervais on a talk show being asked about God and the answer he gave is really thought-provoking.
For those that haven't seen it he made the point that if all holy books were destroyed today and all knowledge of them was lost, they would never be reproduced in the same way, with the same characters and stories.
However, if all knowledge of science was lost today, eventually everything we know would be re-discovered and be EXACTLY the same.
Maybe its an idea for perspective in your search.
Cheers.
shocking information near the bottom of this report from a watchtower lawyer definding the organization in australian courts.focus on the information under the heading: "the faithful and discreet slave".
quite the shocker... the society's lawyer statesthere is no true physical body of people, but only a theological arrangement.
the jws in the crowd gasped.
Zeb, yes Vincent Toole appeared at the arc in the capacity of a legal representative for the wts and was called to give evidence.
A lifetime ago he was our C. O. in a Queensland Cong. He was actually a highly regarded brother and easily the most outstanding C. O. that I remember.
I believe the Australian branch sent him to uni to become a lawyer many yrs ago.
I wonder how many talks he did criticising higher education? 🤔
i just thought i might bring this up again for the many new people that that have come to this site .. the subject : "the tort of misrepresentation of blood transfusions by jehovah`s witnesses" by kerry louderback wood.
kerry louderback wood p.a.law firm 2005. if you are interested in the subject download it as i am useless in doing so.
.
My sister was only 7 when she woke up in her bed one night covered in her own blood. She had sneezed and started a massive bleed which had something to do with her adenoids.
Rushed to hospital, but because of her being a JW there was confusion and hesitation about how to go about treating her. The hospital staff were so confused they didn't even to attach her to a drip. She lost litres of blood.
She survived, but a registered nurse of 40 years experience later told us that she had turned grey and was as close to death as she had ever seen anyone that had gone on to survive.
This was in the early 80's, when parents could still make the call on medical treatment (or lack of) for their children. Fast forward to 2018 and my sister is no longer a JW and neither is my Mother.
When I think about the blood issue I think about kids that were influenced by their parents and, wanting to please them, said no to transfusions. Some died, some survived.
a little back story.
i met this women she was a coworker friend mine (found out she used to be a jw also).
one night after we got to drinking, things almost heated up.. she came on to me (she leaned in and tried to kiss me) i turned her down because i knew she had a bf.
You are a saint!!.
But who knows? - maybe one day you might look back on your life and regret not 'accommodating her' .
The important lesson here is that unlike her, you owe nothing to her boyfriend.
has god preserved his word today?
many people attack, doubt and fault god's word.
yet god has made several promises in his word.he promised to preserve his word unto every generation,he promised that every word would be truth,he promised that we can rely and depend on his every word.satan wants nothing more than to dismiss, and cast doubt on god's word... so the question today is... do we have god's preserved word today?
Has God preserved his word today?
What an interesting question.
Isn't 'Gods Word' a combination of books cobbled together by 'apostate Catholics' in the 4th century AD, based on myths and prophesies fulfilled in reverse?
I guess none of that matters though...what matters is that God's true name has been preserved accurately by another Catholic medieval monk, oh wait....no, that's not right either.
And this is me trying really hard NOT to be a dick.
what kind of questions would you use to get a child'scritical thinking skills going from a young age with regards to the bible/god/jesus/anything to do with the religion??.
my most hated answer jws gave to people when they said you can't see god so how do you know he exists was "well you can't see electricity or gravity but you know they exist".
sorry but that doesn't prove god exists.
Maybe getting them to understand the old saying about truth vs faith.
That is,
'Faith is something you believe- whether it is true or not.
Truth is an accepted fact- whether you believe it or not.'
